It took a year and a half to develop the Fuel which Black Diamond likes to say combines the best performance of the Cobra (BD’s carbon fiber tool) and the modularity of the BD Fusion.
The Fuel is made from a single piece of hydroformed aluminum. They claim this makes for a lighter feel, superior swing and better handling.
It has a handle that offers multiple grip options as the grip includes spacing washers to customize the grip to different hands sizes or gloves accommodations.
The head has dry tool blades and comes equipped with a higher performance thin blade ice pick with a decreased pick angle to improve the performance on ice.
This is certainly BD’s response to the Petzl Nomic which has been dominating the dry-tooling/ice climbing market.
